Our Mission
Brushes for Bhutan produces, promotes, coordinates, and advances hands-on arts education that develops creative skills and critical thinking in order to enhance job seeking skills, contribute to learning and student achievement, and enrich the quality of life of Bhutanese youth. We believe every child deserves a well-rounded education that includes the arts.
Vision and Values
Art education plays a major role in a young person's academic and social development, Research has proven that getting an arts education can make a real difference in the lives of youth. Beyond providing a creative outlet, arts education helps develop:
- Imagination
- Cognitive skills
- Creative abilities
- Problem solving

- Language
- Social skills
- Focusing
- Observation
- Risk taking
- Teamwork
Bhutan has a rich tradition in the arts and crafts that date back centuries and encompasses sacred painting, carving, basketry, weaving, metalwork, and other forms. These disciplines are handed down through generations and are learned through apprenticeships outside of the education system.
Our arts education program can never supplant Bhutanese culture and traditional values, but will serve to bring the arts and humanities into all schools, especially those located in underserved rural communities. Meaningful exposure to the arts and humanities is beneficial in many ways, and our aim is to deliver academically sound programs that will focus on community building, critical thinking, analytical skills, problem solving, and ultimately, human development and personal growth.
